What is relanalysis?
relanalysis is a web-based reliability prediction tool for electronic systems. Upload a Bill of Materials (BOM) and receive a detailed Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) estimate based on the MIL-HDBK-217F standard — the U.S. military's established framework for electronic component failure rate prediction.
Component classification and failure rate mapping are performed automatically using AI, so no manual lookup or spreadsheet work is required.
How it works
- Upload a CSV or Excel BOM file
- Select your operating environment, quality level, and temperature
- Each component is classified and matched to a MIL-HDBK-217F failure rate model
- System MTBF and per-subcategory FIT rates are calculated and presented in a structured report
- Results can be exported as a PDF
Limitations
- Component classification is performed by AI — obscure or ambiguous part numbers may be misclassified
- Results are engineering estimates and do not substitute for a formal reliability analysis by a qualified engineer
- MIL-HDBK-217F is most applicable to military and defense applications; results for commercial products should be interpreted accordingly
- Components that cannot be matched to a specific type fall back to a conservative default rate for their subcategory — these fallbacks are listed in the report's Assumptions section
- Accuracy improves with well-described BOMs that include manufacturer part numbers and component descriptions
A note on repeatability
The FIT rate reference table is fixed and deterministic — every base rate, and all Pi-factor calculations for environment, quality, and temperature, are always computed the same way. What can vary between runs is how the AI classifies individual components. A part described ambiguously may be assigned to a slightly different subcategory on a subsequent run, which can produce a small difference in the total FIT. For well-described BOMs with clear part numbers and descriptions, results are highly consistent. For BOMs with vague or generic descriptions, we recommend running the analysis more than once and comparing outputs.

- Required columns: Part Number, Description, Quantity (exact column names are flexible)
- Recommended: include Manufacturer and Reference Designator columns for best results
Privacy
Your BOM data is processed in real-time and never stored. Files are held in memory only for the duration of the analysis and immediately discarded. There are no user accounts, no tracking, and no data retention of any kind. The component data you upload remains your intellectual property.
